Flashback Friday

The Hyatt, Perth, School Ball, circa 1989. Identities are not disclosed in accordance with the Official Secrets Act, 1969, to protect the guilty. I stand accused of reckless use of watermark taffeta in the first degree; convicted of grievous bodily harm with overuse of hairspray and curlers; charged with fraternising with fellow wearers of ruched garments and striking cheesy poses learnt in grooming and deportment classes. Yep. That be moi. Guilty as charged. On location in a time where hotels thought it was still the height of classy to run with the pink and grey decorating colour scheme.

I'm playing along with Curly Pops ... we are clearly of the same vintage. Head over. Sign up. Post it. Get it out in the open. Embrace it. It's OK...we were young.

ps. I've embraced it so much I'm using it as inspiration!

How swisho that you had a formal at The Hyatt!
Taffeta, ruching, hairspray and 80's curlers should be illegal.
Pink and grey really was everywhere wasn't it?

PS - Thanks so much for playing along. It's so nice to have company for my embarassment!

If you're guilty then you're not alone! I wore the same shade of blue but it was a drop waisted affair that my Mum made.

You looked so totally cool. :D

Guilty indeed, but a victim of the times! Glad to see that I am not alone!

See, I love the watermark taffeta! Maybe I should have stayed in the 80s!

You were very lucky to have yours at a hotel - we had ours at the catholic boys school auditorium. I went to a (very) state school. I think it was the biggest venue in the town at the time.

Mine was far, far worse. Even my mum recently said "what were you thinking?" Light blue, floral, puff sleeves with lace cuffs. Yikes. With a bit of luck I've destroyed all photos.

I think that you have actually done quite well here you know. You look beautiful.
It's nothing on the hot pink, drop waisted, round necked, taffeta frock replete with leg o'mutton sleeves (pushed up the arms for extra ruching) worn with a fan of hair-sprayed hair that was my sister's ball frock. It is officially the least flattering garment in existence.

On the other hand, my black raw silk boned strapless number with full short skirt, electric blue tulle underneath trimmed with a black satin ribbon and complemented with a black velvet bolero jacket was HOT! My hair was Demi Moore in St Elmo's Fire!

I had a dress that colour! At least we thought we looked good at the time. Thanks for stopping by my blog and passing on the info about the zippered-dopp-kit. I'm going to have a go at sewing one up.

Excellent! I am in the green (well not actually but I had a dress almost identical). x
